The fabric softener brand Downy, which is distributed and produced by consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble, has re-made the 1980′s iconic Super Bowl commercial featuring “Mean” Joe Green of the Pittsburgh Steelers and a little boy who offers Joe a Coke. The original Super Bowl commercial, aired by Coca-Cola in 1979, was voted by AdAge readers in 2011 as the number one Super Bowl commercial of all-time. 

The new Downy version features a much older Joe Green along with seasoned comedian and actress, Amy Sedaris. The astute viewer will notice Green’s realistic hobbled walk, thanks to 13 seasons in the NFL. Whereas in the original ad it’s evident Green summoned the acting skills of Brian Piccolo (aka James Caan) to help with his faux-post-game-walk-down-the-tunnel. The re-make also includes a little improvisation at the end, so keep an eye out for it.
